Day 347

Tega Cay, South Carolina Photographer Posts Individual Shelter Dog Portrait Photos for 365 Consecutive Days to Raise Awareness of Homeless Animals in the United States

The goal of the 365 campaign is to raise awareness about the number of animals in the shelters. Each day for one year I post a new and unique photo of a dog taken at an animal shelter. Many of these dogs were adopted from the shelter or sent to a rescue organization. Some were euthanized at the shelter.

The last of our own shelter rescue dogs is so astoundingly perfect in every way we call him Mr. Perfect. 55 pounds. Perfect. Lets little kids hang on him. Perfect. Keeps all the other dogs in line, including fosters, without hurting them. Perfect. Does exactly what you tell him to do. Perfect. Sleeps in the room but not on the bed. Perfect. Threatens to rip anyone’s face off if they come around the house but loves them up when we let them in. Perfect. Happy inside or outside for hours on end. Perfect. Never has accidents in the house. Perfect. The only thing he ever gets into or chews are his antlers or chews which he shares with the other dogs. Perfect. Only barks when there are strangers. Perfect. The softest most kissable ears. Perfect. Thrilled to go for a 5 mile hike or cuddle up and watch Netflix. Perfect. Of all the dogs- he’s basically the adult in the room in every situation. He’s Mr. Perfect.

This is another of our own rescue dogs. When he’s not getting loved up or being a couch potato, he frequently helps me size the doggie bling for photoshoots.

So now, in honor of the holiday season, I am posting a few closer to home. My home, to be exact.

We are so grateful to be in a position to be able to help rescue dogs. Sometimes that assistance comes by financially supporting rescues and shelters. Sometimes we take photos to market homeless animals. Sometimes we foster dogs.

I’d be lying if I said we never foster failed. This is one of our dogs. She came from Miami-Dade Animal Services.

The last photo is her on intake at the shelter. The photo with my husband is on the day we picked her up from transport. She has blossomed into a gorgeous couch potato, albeit a bit protective.
